Modes of Oblique Inversion: A Case Study From the Cretaceous Fold and Thrust Belt of the Western Transdanubian Range (TR), West Hungary

Abstract Inversion of pre‐existing normal faults is a frequent phenomenon in orogenic belts. However, their impact on the evolution Cretaceous Eoalpine orogeny poorly studied, despite widespread presence Triassic and Jurassic faults. NW‐SE striking ramps are nucleated above faults, whereas NE‐SW folds thrust with limited strike‐parallel length evolved due to breached relay ramps, connected segments We determined different types incuding suffered transpressional reactivation, hanging wall breakthrough thrusts, footwall short‐cut by‐pass thrusts. Only very steep or those strike at low angle regional E‐W shortening direction, were not reactivated.
